Introductions and Thank You to Rob

December 11, 2012 · 0 comments

Hello CORA members

My name is Cindy Wright, and I’m the new CORA President. I’ve been with ORPC for about 10 years now and have been on the board in different stints, more than a few times. This is my third year on the present board, so I can provide some continuity and history to the coming board and year. I want to extend a huge Thank You, on behalf of everyone, to Rob Varnel who has worked tirelessly for the last two years as CORA President. Rob gets to move into the Past-President post and will also be providing insight and history to us. He also will be keeping some portfolios and is keen on continuing to participate on the board.

For 2013, the Race schedule is mostly set and we thank Vernon for taking on the task of hosting Nationals this year. We think having Nationals in Vernon will be a wonderful change and will allow some clubs in the Interior and east of the Rockies, the chance to participate in Nationals

CORA membership will be due January 1, 2013 (regardless of when you last paid your yearly fee). We will soon post instructions regarding online renewals/payments, however, please don’t attempt to pay online until January 1. All members have an expire tag in their account which will wipe the system clean on December 31.  We need to wait until after that tag goes off, before we can add renewals and new members. We will, of course, continue to accept the ol’ fashion paper forms. Watch the website for more details and instructions.

Other things we are working towards this year are some video productions on specific topics of interest and concern to paddlers. This work was approved at the CORA Technical meeting/AGM and will allow paddlers and coaches access to videos that will highlight paddling specific skills. We are also hoping to establish a “Long-term Planning Committee” that will consider and provide to the board advice on where CORA should be moving to as a sports organization and the tools we may need to get there. This is akin to the 5-10 year plan. If this sort of planning tickles your fancy, we will be looking for volunteers to sit on this committee.

Finally, we will be once again offering our clinic, travel and RME (Repair, Maintenance and Equipment) grants again. We will post more information in the new year.

CORA has lots of tools to help you achieve your paddling and club goals, so don’t hesitate to take advantage of them. If you have any questions, please email information (at) canadianoutrigger.com.
