Farewell James Van Nostrand

April 20, 2013 · 1 comment

It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of James Van Nostrand on Monday, April 15th after a 2-year battle with throat cancer. James, a boat builder, craftsman and paddler who used to work at Western Canoe, was passionate about being on the water and about the outdoors. He was the designer behind the Advantage OC-6 and C-Lion OC-1 outrigger canoes. He was someone who was part of our extended ohana and he will be greatly missed.

A celebration and open house will be held Wednesday, April 24, from 1:30 to 4:00 pm at his family's home at 45575 Wells Road, Chilliwack, BC.

Even though I only met Jim once on a holiday in 1997 with my mum and aunt to visit my Canadian family for the first time, I still remember a great time had by all and being welcomed so openly. I have such great memories of that time. Jim, you will be missed by so many especially by your loving wife and two sons. Thinking of you all from the UK. Tina xx
