Sacramento World Sprints will be held from August 1st to August 9th 2008. For detailed information go to the official website www.ivf2008usa.info
The deadline for intent to participate has pasted. Thank you for the huge response of paddlers wanting to participate in the 2008 Sacramento World Sprints! This is by far the largest Canadian representation at such an event. We are sure to give the Tahitians a run for their money.
We have 210 paddlers registered. Time trials are set for the weekend of May 10th - 11th in Oliver (outside of Penticton) and Toronto. Specific information regarding the time trials has been sent to all participants. The time trial information package can be found online on the CORA Resource page.
Cora membership is due by all outrigger paddlers as of January 1st (as usual). Paddlers who do not normally compete in CORA events, will be expected to complete the application and pay the $20 fee ($10 for juniors) when attending the time trial. CORA is a member of the International Va'a Federation (IVF) and all participants must be a member of CORA.
Paddlers selected to Canada crews will be notified via email on May 14. Members have until midnight PST May 16 to decline via email. After which amended rosters will be sent out May 17 and acceptance will have to be verified by May 19. If a position is declined, the next paddler will be moved up.
If there is less than 4 club crews per division and enough additional individuals who wish to race V-6 but have not been named to Canada I or Canada II, a Canada III crew will be named. Members of a club crew do not need to be from the same club.
Four junior teams are registered and require their own chaperones to accompany and organize their teams. The Canadian Coordinator will define guidelines for juniors going to Sacramento.
Adaptive paddlers may also require their aids to attend. Our Canadian Coordinator will need to define with Sacramento how they are to be accommodated. Florida & Hugh Town will be working with Pogue Sports to try and draw more adaptive paddlers and needed volunteers. Wendy Perkins from Wai Nui is the contact for Ontario. At this time we do not have a V6 team, and the only opportunity available is V1.
Lynda Roberts, Canadian Area Coordinator, is the single point of contact for all Team Canada members ( CanadaAC@CanadaOutriggerSprints.com ) She will be responsible for collecting final registration fees, proof of citizenship, etcetera.. as well as organization of the Final Canadian Sprint Team before and during the event.
Kamini Jain, Head Coach will be working to blend and tweak with Team Canada at sprint camps and during the first 4 days in Sacramento (Aug 1- 4th) - prior to race day.
Uniforms - We are pleased to announce that Pogue Sports and JOS Sports are the " Official Sponsors of the 2008 World Outrigger Sprints in Sacramento 2008 " They will be providing uniforms for ever member going to Sacramento, along with additional items that will include our Team Canada logo and design. They have been very generous with large discounts for these items, but ordering will need to happen quickly after the time trials. More information will be sent shortly.
Thank you to Wendy Penner for all the work in creating the uniform design and 2008 Team Canada logo !
