Great turn out at the first race in the 2010 PNWORCA Winter Race Series. 54 canoes came out to soak up some rare sunshine and get back into the competitive spirit. What should have been a 10.5 km. course was cut short for most paddlers when a tug towing a huge log boom cut inside the markers. Half a dozen canoes at the front of the pack were past this but the rest had to turn at the 3rd marker instead of going to the bell can.

Please note for the point series totals, PNWORCA is not going to distinguish between long course/short course. They are going to assume that top 7 long course finishers would have finished top 7 regardless and are going to base the point totals on the final results (available on the CORA Race Results page). If you would like to challenge any of the places please let PNWORCA know before race 2. However, please keep in mind that sometimes things happen out there beyond our control and you get lucky/unlucky in your race course decision. We apologize if race day obstacles affected your standing. The race organizers did their best to make decisions on the fly and to keep the course as safe and fair as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

The series works by accumulating points over the course of the 7 races. Overall finishers in the men's and women's OC1, OC2, surfski, SUP divisions are scored 5 points for first place and 1 point for fifth place. The 5 best scores out of the 7 races are used to calculate totals. Awards are given to the top 5 finishers. In the age division categories, points are scored 5 points for 1st place, 4 points for 2nd place and 3 points for 3rd place. Awards are given to the top 3 finishers.

Paddlers must complete at least 3 races in the series to qualify for awards, presented at the final race at the end of the season. The completion of 3 races also forms a division category. Paddlers must stick with the same age category - if you race open in one race and masters in another, they will be scored separately and points will not accumulate.
