2009 CORA AGM
click to enlarge Thanks to everyone that came out for the 2009 CORA AGM and Technical Meeting. The minutes are posted on the Resources page. Here's a summary of the major decisions for 2010.

Insurance: Option 3 was adopted. Here is the revised text: CORA purchase an insurance policy that covers premises, personal injury, bodily damage, errors and omissions. The policy protects 1) the CORA Board for operating budget, errors and omissions, 2) CORA sanctioned races, and 3) 28 Member Clubs for operating budgets, board of directors errors and omissions, day to day activities. For a CORA club to be in good standing, all outrigger paddlers (race and recreational) must be CORA members. Should the club's outrigger paddlers not belong to CORA the club must provide proof that they have purchased additional coverage from another source.

Class designations: It was decided to shift the age divisions by five years.
Junior - 19 and under
Novice - less than two years paddling
Open - any age
Masters - 40+
Senior Masters - 50+
Golden Masters - 60+
Kupuna - 65+

Additional OC6 Class: Recognizing that production methods are improving and that canoes can be built considerably lighter than 400lbs (current standard) we've added an "unlimited" class to OC6. Canoes in the unlimited class can be under 400lbs. This was passed because the current generation of OC6 canoes is often coming out of the mould at 330lbs to 350lbs so instead of permanently adding weight, clubs with these canoes can temporarily add weight for races until such time as there are enough "unlimited canoes" to justify a racing class. *Note, it will be up to the CORA board to decide "when" there are enough canoes to justify an unlimited class. Racing an unlimited canoe in the regular division without adding weight will result in disqualification.

CORA Cup Points: There are no changes to the CORA Cup points system for OC6 for the 2010 season. We have however done away with the CORA Cup points system for small boats (OC1, OC2, Surfski). Not enough paddlers were competing in enough events to justify the points system. The races will go on but we're not going to bother with points for them.

CORA Cup Race standardization: It was agreed to try and standardize some of the policies and procedures for CORA Cup races. The document hasn't been finalized but will include items like registration fee caps and race course requirements.

Canadian Iron Champs: Date and location to be determined. Interested clubs can email their proposal to information@canadianoutrigger.com.
