NEW for 2009 "Travel Grants"
|
At the 2008 AGM, it was agreed to remove the Cash Prize from the Canadian National race and apply to a new initiative. "Travel Grants"
The purpose of the CORA Travel Grant is to encourage team travel to CORA races, particularly those outside of their region. Appliations are available online under Resources.
Recognizing that transporting OC6 boats is expensive and ferry costs can make team travel prohibitive, the Grant encourages teams to consider participating in more races. The Grant is intended to subsidize OC6 transportation, NOT individual boats nor paddlers.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Applies to OC 6 Transportation only
To encourage travel for team races and not individual racers and OC1/OC2
CORAs mandate is to promote the sport of outrigger paddling and in so doing, encourages safe and fun participation
CORA encourages teams to consider legal and safety issues when transporting boats and paddlers
2. Minimum of 100 kms of road travel or by ferry
To encourage teams to travel outside of their immediate area and attend races in another region (greater than 100kms: ie not within the Lower Mainland)
To offset high cost of trailering an OC6 on a ferry
3. Reimbursement for Gas and/or Ferry (vehicle, trailer and vehicle drivers ferry fare) expenses only
Proof of expenditure and maintaining a record of expenses are critical to CORAs book keeping
Does NOT include cost of passengers, meals, coffee, accommodations or other expenses such as parking or mechanical repairs
Travel grant is to cover cost of transporting boats not participants
4. One application per trailer per race
Clubs are encouraged to travel together where possible
Limited funds are available per race, and CORA would like as many clubs as possible to benefit
5. Clubs may apply more than once per year
Encourage teams to attend as many races as possible
To ensure that funds are available for races at the end of the season
6. Reimbursement for travel is up to a maximum of $200.00 per application
To allow maximum number of clubs to apply and take advantage of the fund which is currently set at $2400.00
CORA can decide to award less than $200 and distribute funds to all applicants if it so chooses
NOTE: A maximum of $600.00 of Travel Grant subsidies will be awarded per CORA sanctioned race to ensure that there are funds available for teams participating in races throughout the season. Funds that are not allocated will not be rolled forward to the next race but will remain for future years.
A 2 week time limit on submitting applications is to allow CORA to assess the total number of applications and consider how the funds should be distributed if there are many applicants.
The Travel Grant will be reviewed by the CORA Board at the end of the 2009 racing season and consider revisions to the policy as necessary.
